Thank you to Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation for supporting my sailing at the C420 South Shore Championship. It was held in Sayville, New York and it was a windy and warm week. South Shore was a great regatta to end my summer sailing at, even in choppy waters. I worked hard and was happy with how I sailed over the entirety of the summer. Thank you again to NHSF for your support!

Reade Decker at the Chubb U.S. Junior Sailing Championships

Thank you so very much for your support of my competition in the US Sailing Jr. Championship for the Bemis Trophy.

Having just completed the C420 South Shore Championship in New York, my crew Sophia Mulvania and I traveled to Holland, MI to compete in this event hosted at the Macatawa Bay Yacht Club. Representing Area J we competed against 21 boats from across the country.

Day one started with light winds and a strong current. The breeze continued to build, providing better racing conditions. On day two we saw a strong breeze at 12-14 knots with consistent chop. The increase in breeze separated the fleet. Going into day three, with eight races completed, we led the fleet. We waited on the water for two hours for the breeze to build to 4 knots, allowing the race committee to run 1 final race.

At the end of 9 races, we celebrated as we had sailed the range of conditions to win the event. This was very exciting as it was the final event Sophia Mulvania and I would sail as a team in the C420.

Reade Decker at the CJ Buckley C420 Team Racing National Championship

Thank you for supporting my sailing at the CJ Buckey C420 Team Racing National Championships. This event is my favorite regatta of the year, allowing my team to challenge itself and compete against the top teams in the C420s.

We started the event with a loss on our first race, attributing this to not yet being in our groove. The day progressed better, as we won the remainder of our races. On day two we entered the semi-final round. Our focus and teamwork allowed us to win our races and advance to the championships.  Here we face our other NB4T team. With intense competition, we battled to win the first two races. Our opponents came back to win the third race, but we closed out the championship series with a win in the fourth race to secure our title as C420 Team Racing National Champions. Thank you for making my travel and competition in this event possible.

Ethan Simpson at 2022 CJ Buckley Team Race National Championship

CJ Buckley is a Team Race Regatta without a spinnaker or trapeze which is different from the other type of 420 racing I’ve been doing all summer. It is a 3 on 3 format, which is one of my favorite types of racing, and favorite regattas of the year. My team and I had a great regatta, working really well together, and pushing hard for the win. We fell short, to place 2nd in the finals, but what a great regatta and experience. Thank you NHSF for supporting us at CJ Buckley!

Thank you to the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation for their support of youth sailing. North American’s was held in Port Erie, Canada. This was my first time sailing in Canada and I was able to see Niagara Falls, which was awesome. The conditions were all over the board between very light to extremely windy, which made it physically taxing and not easy! I hope to experience and return to Canada to sail and test my skills again one day. Thank you again to NHSF!
