Thanks to your support I was honored to represent the Newport Beach C420 Race Team (NB4T) at the 2022 CJ Buckley Team Racing event this year. I joined fellow teammates, Reade Decker and Peter Busch to compete against 24 teams from across the country. This two-day event was held at Goddard park in East Warwick, RI. On day one we went 9-1, as the regatta was held in a Swiss League rotation with 120 races being completed on the first day.

Immediately after flying back from 505 Worlds in Ireland it was time to take on a new challenge - foiling. I had not done very much of it, so it figured my trial run foiling would be an America’s Cup invitational demonstration clinic and fund-raiser for challenger team American Magic.
My first day of the clinic was a little hectic. I got to Newport, RI, at 7 a.m. from Ireland. I was a little disoriented when I arrived at the boat park and found myself surrounded by the most talented U25 sailors in the country. We had incredible coaches like Jeremy Wilmot and Tom Burnahm. The first day was a little light, but we managed to get up on the foil and rip around in the 69F.

Due to your generous funding, I was able to travel to Fort Ontario, Canada to race in the C420 North American Championships at the Buffalo Canoe Club. It was a great experience to spend a week in Canada. The event did not go as well as I would have hoped based on the strong winds and chop. One day we saw gusts of 25 knots with steep six-foot chop. The conditions were extremely challenging for the four days of racing.

Thank you for supporting my travels and sailing at the 2022 C420 South Shore Regatta. This was the final event of the C420 summer circuit and the Triple Crown Series. Three days of great racing were held by Sayville Yacht Club. Consistent breeze of 12-15 knots prevailed for the three days with some races seeing 17 knots. My crew, Sophia Mulvania, and I were proud of our racing, seeing top ten finishes throughout the racing including a first and a second in the Gold fleet racing. Overall, we finished fourth at the event and placed third overall in the C420 Triple Crown Series.

The 2022 Morgan Cup was a total blast. Newport Harbor Yacht Club put together a spectacular team, made up of superb talent and fantastic personalities.
The regatta started a bit tough for our team with a 0 and 3 run in round robin one. The corporate office really showed its toll on our team initially. However, after a tough start and patiently waiting for the wind to shift from a northerly to the sea breeze direction, team NHYC pulled themselves back into a high performing state. The afternoon consisted of far more W’s than L’s, and we clawed back to finish day one at 500. Day two consisted of very similar weather conditions, a northerly in the morning, a couple hours of no wind, and then a big shift to the sea breeze direction. Unfortunately, team NHYC flipped their strategy from day 1, starting off 2 and 0, then finishing the day with far more L’s than W’s. Day two’s results made it difficult for us to qualify for the final four, however, we approached day three with a desire to show the other teams what we will be coming back with next year. With this passion, we closed out the regatta with a couple of W’s and a fifth place.

Thank you so much for funding me to go to the Pacific Coast Championships at the San Francisco Yacht Club. It was a qualifying race for Opti Team trials that will take place at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club next spring. Although I didn’t qualify, I had so much fun, pushing my limits in the wind and making more friends along the way.
