The 2022 Morgan Cup was a total blast. Newport Harbor Yacht Club put together a spectacular team, made up of superb talent and fantastic personalities.
The regatta started a bit tough for our team with a 0 and 3 run in round robin one. The corporate office really showed its toll on our team initially. However, after a tough start and patiently waiting for the wind to shift from a northerly to the sea breeze direction, team NHYC pulled themselves back into a high performing state. The afternoon consisted of far more W’s than L’s, and we clawed back to finish day one at 500. Day two consisted of very similar weather conditions, a northerly in the morning, a couple hours of no wind, and then a big shift to the sea breeze direction. Unfortunately, team NHYC flipped their strategy from day 1, starting off 2 and 0, then finishing the day with far more L’s than W’s. Day two’s results made it difficult for us to qualify for the final four, however, we approached day three with a desire to show the other teams what we will be coming back with next year. With this passion, we closed out the regatta with a couple of W’s and a fifth place.
All in all, team NHYC had a fantastic time on and off the water. Our team chemistry and growth throughout the regatta far surpassed that of any other yacht club. New friendships were developed, existing friendships were deepened, and a winning team was born for 2023.
A huge thank you to the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation. Without the continuous support of this foundation, team NHYC would not have been able to experience the joy of the 2022 Morgan Cup.
