Gavin Lindsey at the C420 Midwinters

This year at C420 Midwinters I had a lot of fun sailing in the different conditions especially when it got windy. My skipper Lincoln Betz and I were flying on the downwinds just rushing through the puffs, riding waves and speeding by other boats. And on the reaches I was flat out on the trapeze getting sprayed by waves hitting our bow splashing up into the boat. All in all it was super fun to go sail Midwinters this year and I really enjoyed it.

I appreciate all the volunteers, coaches and parents that helped make this regatta happen. And thank you to the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation for your support.

On behalf of the entire Macer Dei family, I would like to thank you for your generous contribution to the Sailing Affinity Fund.

This year we will celebrate the 75th anniversary of this great institution. We will honor the pioneers who, forged with faith, committed to creating a school in the heart of Orange County dedicated to Mary, Mater Dei. A school that embraces tradition, seeks innovation, and forms young men and women in gospel values all to the glory of God. We continue to be that today, and this is due in great part to the love and care of generations of Monarchs like you who consistently support our mission - Honor, Glory, Love.

I recently concluded the inaugural Vx One Winter Series in Miami, and it was an incredible experience. The entire weekend was dedicated to sailing with Scott Rasmussen, which provided an invaluable learning opportunity and was simply a blast. Miami, as usual, delivered its signature 85-degree weather, making even challenging conditions an enjoyable experience on the water.

Hannah Crompton’s C420 Summer Regatta Recap

Posted Nov 17, 2025
Sailors: Hannah Crompton |Thomas O'Grady

I spent most of this past summer on the East Coast, competing in the Club 420 Association’s circuit. For four of the five regattas I competed in, I teamed up with a sailor from Darien, Connecticut. Before the first regatta, I spent a week training with him along with many other boats at Tom’s River Yacht Club in New Jersey. During that time I stayed with a family who hosted many of us who were from out of the area. It was a fun way to get to know some of my fellow competitors better. The first event we competed in was the Mid Atlantic Championship, hosted by Seaside Park Yacht Club in the Jersey Shore. This regatta took place during a massive heat wave on June 24-25. Not only was it incredibly hot and humid during the regatta, but the typical strong sea breeze they usually have in that location was missing. So unfortunately the regatta was full of postponements and not a ton of racing. But the organizers did their best with the conditions. We did manage four races over two days. My partner and I finished 8th out of 44 boats, which felt like a good warm up for the summer.

Olivia Norton at the C420 North American Championships

Posted Oct 28, 2025
Sailors: Olivia Norton |Kingston Keyoung

In contrast to last year's severe wind and waves, the 2025 North Americans started as a light air regatta. Kingston Keyoung, my skipper, and I felt comfortable in these conditions since the wind is very similar in Southern California. However, the breeze eventually picked up, allowing crews to get on traps and racing to get more exciting. After the first two days of the regatta we qualified for the gold fleet, and on the last day we were able to race in our final fleets (gold and silver). I am so grateful to have been able to compete against some of the best sailors on the continent, and for this regatta to be supported by the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation!
