Thank you to the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation for helping support my sailing at the 2024 C420 Open North American Championship. This year, the regatta was on July 17-20 at Redwood City, California. It was hosted by Peninsula Youth Sailing Foundation, and we sailed out of Westpoint Harbor. My skipper, Carly Kiedling, and I had already raced in the 2024 C420 Women’s North American Championship on July 13-15 at Redwood City, California. Therefore, we took July 16 as a rest day. We spent the day at the Stanford Shopping Mall with some other sailor friends. This open regatta was on average significantly windier than the previous women’s regatta. During the four regatta days, the breeze filled in relatively early, allowing us to have a peak wind of around twenty-two knots. However, the first race of almost every day had lighter wind–around eight to thirteen knots. My skipper and I were able to use the starting skills that we learned from the previous women’s regatta in this regatta. Although we had a pretty inconsistent scoreline, we still placed decently, finishing in fourteenth place overall. We were proud of this result, given that we were an all girls team sailing in very windy conditions. Thank you to the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation for helping support my sailing at the 2024 C420 Women’s North American Championship. This year, the regatta was on July 13-15 at Redwood City, California. It was hosted by Peninsula Youth Sailing Foundation, and we sailed out of Westpoint Harbor. This was my third national level C420 women’s regatta, but it was my first one as a crew. My skipper, Carly Kiedling, and I drove up on July 10, for two days of practice before the regatta. The first practice day was hot and had flat water and light wind. On the second practice day, the breeze filled in a little bit earlier, allowing us to have a peak wind of around sixteen knots. During the actual regatta, we saw around seven knots, nineteen knots, and everywhere in between. My skipper and I struggled greatly with our starts, causing our scores to be a little more inconsistent than we hoped. In the end, we finished in fourth place. While this was not our goal, the regatta was an amazing learning experience for me and my skipper. Our starts improved tremendously over the course of the regatta, and we were able to carry that into our following regatta. Thank you so much for your support!

Thank you to the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation for the support at the 2024 ILCA North Americans at New Bedford Yacht Club on Buzzards Bay. Over 100 boats from all over the country, and a handful of international sailors made up the ILCA 6 fleet. The first day of racing was delayed on shore for a few hours due to rain and thunderstorms. After about four hours of postponement, the racing began. The storm system killed the wind and it was light and variable conditions. After attempting to get a start off, thick fog set in over the racing area and RC called it for the day with no races. The second day was much better conditions. Following, a brief postponement waiting for wind and a few large shifts, racing began. It was a consistent 5-7 kts throughout the day with puffs getting up 10 kts. Day three was a completely different experience, breeze started off at about 12-14 but after a large left shift, it built to well over 20kts. Racing in the big breeze is usually my strong suit but the downwind legs revealed a massive hole in my game that I need to work on. The final day of the event brought rain and unpredictable shifty and variable conditions. The day started out with a breeze of about 14kts but suddenly died to only about 6.

Thank you to the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation for the support at the 2024 US Youth Championship in Bristol, Rhode Island at Roger Williams University. 83 boats from all over the country made up the ILCA 6 fleet. In the days before racing, I participated in several practices with my team, GCYSA, and sailing with the US Youth Team as a part of an ODP camp.

Team Rock City Cruising Club—Campbell D’Eliscu, Shawn Harvey, Sean Segerblom, Anisha Arcot, Trish Gerli, and Caroline Teare—represented NHYC at the 75th anniversary of the Wilson Trophy, held May 3-5 in West Kirby, UK.  This event is renowned as one of the most competitive and prestigious international 3v3 dinghy team races.
