Morgan Pinckney at the 2018 C420 Summer Events

Sailors: Nathan Sih |Morgan Pinckney

Thank you for supporting Nathan Sih and I on our three-week Club 420 trip out East this summer.  We warmed up by competing in the Junior Olympics at Mission Bay Yacht Club, placing third in the 23-boat fleet and just missing qualifying for the US National double-handed Championship, the Bemis.

Immediately after JO’s, we jumped on a red-eye from San Diego to Brant Beach, New Jersey for the C420 US Nationals, followed by the Hyannis Regatta on Cape Cod, and the C420 North Americans in Buzzards Bay.

Thank you for supporting my C420 campaign on the east coast. I just finished my first regatta, C420 Nationals, in Brant Beach, NJ. Morgan and I finished 27th in the Gold Fleet, out of 146 total boats. At our second event, Hyannis, we placed 32nd. Unfortunately we made some major and costly mistakes, but we feel we are improving a lot and are excited to go to North Americans in New Bedford.

2018 US Youth Match Racing Championship (Rose Cup)

Posted Jul 11, 2018
Sailors: Marbella Marlo |Porter Killian |Jeffrey Petersen |Derek Pickell

This past week, I was lucky enough to sail the US Youth Match Racing Championship in Oyster Bay, New York. Crewing for Porter Killian (BYC), I trimmed the jib and worked the pit on the Sonar, along with Jeffrey Petersen (BYC) and Derek Pickell (BCYC). This was my first match race regatta, and first time sailing a Sonar, and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to compete with some of the most talented match race and keelboat sailors from around the country. Dave Perry, US Sailing Director and former head coach for the US Women’s Match Racing Team orchestrated the event in the form of a ‘clinegatta’, where the first two days were dedicated to a clinic, where the sailors could work on boat handling and tactics in preparation for the last three days of racing.

Jeffrey Peterson at the US Match Race Qualifier SF

Posted May 30, 2018
Sailors: Jeffrey Petersen |Harrison Vandervort |Porter Killian |Britain Hammock

“That went from Fresh to frightening” was the quote that was one; said at least three times a race and two; completely and accurately described this recent regatta held at St. Francis Yacht Club. Team Cricket Racing consisting of Skipper: Jeffrey Petersen, Age 16, Main Trimmer: Harrison Vandervort, Age 21, Jib Trimmer: Porter Killian, Age 18, and Bow: Britain Hammock, Age 21 took on the windy San Francisco Bay to compete in The United States Match Racing Championship Qualifier in hopes of earning a spot in this years Championship being held at Chicago Yacht Club. This event was my first chance to sail at this venue and, I am going to be completely honest, I had heard all the stories of big winds and was like “yeah ok, sure” not believing them being the typical Southern California sailor I am. But, let me tell you… the stories are are 110% true.
