Team NHYC at the Morgan Cup Regatta

The 2023 Morgan Cup was yet another great success for team NHYC both on and off the water. This event is a 3v3 team race in Sonars with a total of 10 teams competing. Hosted by New York Yacht Club, the Morgan Cup is always an awesome event, with stunning Newport (the other Newport) weather, a great fleet of boats, and unforgettable social gatherings. Team NHYC was made up of a top notch squad with a level of crew work that other teams were only able to dream about. Fighting through the round robin and quarter finals, we were really beginning to find our stride come the semi finals. Stacking up against a star studded NYYC team, we put our heads down to close out a best of 3 match in 2 straight wins. Unfortunately, come the finals match up, we forgot how a starting line works and let the Eastern squad have two easy ones. It was a tough ending to an otherwise strong performance, but team NHYC most certainly showed the strongest boat handling/crew work out of any team. We will be back again next year to bring home the cup. Thank you NHSF for the continued support of team NHYC!

Siena Nichols at the Youth Champs - ILCA 6

Posted Oct 24, 2023

Thank you for your support this summer getting me to the U.S. Youth Championships in Bristol, RI for the ILCA-6.

Last year I raced my first Youth Championships in Mission Bay, and was looking forward to this opportunity to participate again this year.  This regatta was an amazing opportunity for me to be able to sail for the first time back east, and also allowed me the opportunity to get more time in a big fleet  in the ILCA-6 because there were 100 boats in attendance.

Maddie Nichols at the Youth Champs ILCA-6

Thank you for helping to support my trip back east this summer to Bristol, Rhode Island to compete in the US Youth Champs at Roger Williams University. This was my first time racing at this event and in an ILCA-6.

I learned many things both on and off the water at this event. Off the water, I learned the importance of staying hydrated and eating the right foods in order to help with my  overall performance and energy levels throughout the day. On the water I learned how to tune or max out my controls on the heavy breeze days.

Marley Mais at the 2023 Thayer Cup

This year’s Thayer Trophy, hosted by Corinthian YC in Marblehead MA, was an incredibly fun and competitive regatta and I am so thankful for the NHYC women’s team for making it an event to remember. The regatta was 3 vs 3 team racing format, sailed in Sonars (with spinnakers) with 4-5 people in each boat. Team NHYC started off the regatta slowly, but as the rain moved away and wind built we began a winning streak that left us 1st after finishing a round robin and moving about halfway through the next.

Noah Stapleton at the CJ Buckley memorial regatta

Thank you so much for helping to fund my expenses for my CJ Buckley memorial regatta. It was a great regatta to be a part of because of what this regatta is for. This regatta is a memorial for CJ Buckley who was a well- known youth sailor in the area that loved team racing. I loved being a part of this to keep his memory alive. It was an exciting regatta. It came down to the last race between us and another Newport Beach team. Even though we got second we still performed very well. My team was Me, Tate Christopher, and Gill Hackel. The first place team was Reade and Chase Decker and Blake Behrens. It was an awesome race to be apart of and thank you for your support.
