Team NHYC at the NYYC 2v2 Women’s Team Race Championship
Team NHYC traveled to Newport, RI to compete in the NYYC 2v2 Women's Team Race Championship June 1st & 2nd. Each June, the New York Yacht Club welcomes a competitive group of women sailors representing yacht clubs and sailing associations from across the US for a weekend of team racing in Sonars. NHYC was thrilled to be invited back to compete this year, the fourth edition of this event. We fielded a team of eight women including Carolyn Smith, Sally Mace, Colin Voigt, Skylar Jacbosen, Clare Dahl, Maddie Bashaw, Marley Mais, and myself.
The event if one of only a few women's team race events held each year and is unique for its 2v2 format, which keeps sailors fighting until the end as the team racing remains tight. We experienced fluctuating conditions with light breeze and wind delays in the mornings and 8-12 knots of sea breeze in the afternoons. NHYC finished fourth, losing a three way tie breaker for second. St. Francis took the championship. We look forward to returning in years to come!
