Team Rock City Cruising Club—Campbell D’Eliscu, Shawn Harvey, Sean Segerblom, Anisha Arcot, Trish Gerli, and Caroline Teare—represented NHYC at the 75th anniversary of the Wilson Trophy, held May 3-5 in West Kirby, UK. This event is renowned as one of the most competitive and prestigious international 3v3 dinghy team races.
The regatta, held in Fireflies, featured 34 of the top teams from Europe, the UK, and the US, who were accepted to compete through a Swiss League format. It was an action-packed three days of tight racing and nightly events, including live music, dancing, and plenty of English-style banter. The Brits know how to throw events, and it was a delight to spend time with both old and new friends.
A particularly noteworthy friendship is with teammate Sean “Sego” Segerblom. We have been racing together for the last 20 years, from competing in sabots to high school sailing national championships for NHHS to college national championships at Georgetown University. Sean is an incredibly loyal friend and an exceptional racer, wise beyond his years. I’m excited about this next chapter of racing and camaraderie together.
Overall, the event was a huge success, thanks largely to the countless volunteers and West Kirby Sailing Club’s stellar race office. A special thank you to NHSF for the support and the opportunity to represent NHYC on a global level, as well as the NHYC TR leadership for their continued dedication to organizing practices and helping everyone ‘level up.’ Our strong finish is as a testament to the depth of our NHYC TR program as a whole.
