The Stockholm International Team Race Regatta 2023 was represented by 3 countries and 6 teams, all sailing in J80's. The teams representing the USA included Newport Harbor Yacht Club (NHYC), New York Yacht Club (NYYC), and Annapolis Yacht Club (AYC); Royal Thames Yacht Club (RTYC) represented the UK, and two Swedish teams from Gamla Stans Yacht Sallskap (GSYS).

The racing took place from Friday - Sunday on the waters of the Stockholm city center boasting views of the Royal Castle and the historical naval island, Kastellholmen. The venue was gorgeous with, mostly, sunny skies each day. The sailing conditions, however, were quite tricky. Due to the geographical challenges of sailing city-front, we would see the wind range from 5-15knts and 20-40° shifts during a race, making for large comeback opportunities as mistakes were less of a hindrance.  It was not uncommon for the 4 to be in the 1 by the next mark because of a lucky shift or from chasing a rogue puff moving down the course that consisted of a simple windward-leeward-windward-finish downwind.

On Friday and Saturday, we completed two round-robins. The final results of the round-robin had Royal Tames in the lead with Newport Harbor following in a close second. The King of Sweden, King Carl XVI Gustaf, made his appearance to watch our racing Saturday which was quite exciting. Going into Sunday to move on, the winner would be the first to two wins, the semi-final pairings consisted of  (1.RTYC vs 4.GSYS) and (2.NHYC vs 3.AYC). Sunday was the most consistent breeze. The final matchup was NHYC and AYC, and we, NHYC, swept both
semi-finals and finals without a loss—a great way to conclude the Regatta.

I would like to express a big thank you to Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation for the support in making this race possible for me [Davis Hanscom]!
