Thank you to the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation for supporting team NHYC at the 2022 Morgan Cup. Hosted annually by New York Yacht Club in Newport Rhode Island, the Morgan Cup is a 3v3 team race regatta in sonars and a great reunion of friends from near and far. Our team of 12 consisted of many individuals that raced for team NHYC at the 2021 Morgan Cup.

This was my first time competing in the Morgan Cup and I not only had a lot of fun but also learned a lot about team racing with spinnakers. We finished in fifth place out of ten teams and unfortunately did not exceed the team's finish last year of fourth place. Over the course of the regatta we had some bright spots and beat teams that finished ahead of us overall, but lost to teams that we beat in the final standings. Each day we were in some form of postponement, often waiting for the northerly breeze to die and the sea breeze to fill in. For the most part the wind cooperated, ranging from 6-10 knots and allowing us to complete two full round robins.

A few individuals on the team will be returning to Newport, RI in a few weeks to sail in the Resolute Cup and will certainly use what we learned throughout this past weekend for their upcoming regatta. I look forward to doing more team racing and hopefully returning to compete in another Morgan Cup in the future!
