Thank you, Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation, for supporting our team at the Stockholm International Team Race Regatta hosted by Gamla Stans Yacht Club located in Stockholm, Sweden. Our team consisted of skipper Bill Menninger, Tyler Macdonald, Randall Hause (me), and Rich Gadbois. The other half of our team included skipper Doug Rastello, Brian Bissell, Rob Rader, and Jenn Lancaster.

The regatta was sailed in J80’s on the picturesque waters in the heart of Stockholm against the incredible backdrop of the Royal Castle, historical naval island Kastellholmen, and architecturally mesmerizing downtown Stockholm. This was one of the most iconic venues, I have ever sailed at, and I look forward to competing in this event again.

This popular team race regatta featured a competitive field of teams from Newport Harbor Yacht Club, New York Yacht Club, England, Italy, and Sweden. The conditions featured lots of daylight as there is very little darkness this time of year in Sweden and tested our sleep schedule to the max. Wind conditions varied from very light to heavy breeze with sun and some rain. The team excelled in all conditions and boat handling was on point.

After three days of racing, we concluded the regatta with a third-place finish. The team battled hard but came up short in the semi-finals. However, we closed out the regatta on a strong note by winning the petit final. We will back for the victory next year!

I am very proud to have represented Newport Harbor internationally and our team is beyond stoked to have the opportunity to compete in this prestigious event. I look forward to continuing to represent NHSF in a championship manner and leader in the Corinthian spirit!
