This year I attended the Southshore regatta in Bellport, New York. I crewed for Kingston Keyoung, and raced from August first to August Third. In contrast to my previous two regattas, this on was short and lower-stakes. While South Shore in a regional regatta, many sailors from across the country attended, because they were already on the East Coast from C420 Nationals. There is no flight selection in this regatta because it is smaller, so we were able to go straight into regular racing. My skipper and I improved a lot at this regatta in our starts, or more specifically in our crowded and high-stakes starts. This was due to the short course and small start line. Additionally, this regatta was the first time I had experienced mark bots, which are marks that drive themselves to the coordinates of where the race committee chooses to have their windward mark. These new marks could be the future of sailing and were so interesting to experience and get to see. Thank you so much for supporting experiences such as South Shore!
