Thank you for your generous financial support to help the Newport Harbor High School Sailing Team travel to Cleveland, Ohio for the Mallory Double Handed Championships. It was much appreciated after having worked hard all year to qualify for this regatta.

The team consisting of Gray Hemans, Brook Wood, Nolan Schupak, Vivian Bonsager, Jack Roman, Dillon Garcia, Shay Wood, and Ethan Simpson arrived in Cleveland Thursday night. Friday, we were able to get a feel for the sailing venue and Midwest sailing conditions. As expected, the only reliable information about the wind and weather was that it was unpredictable. During the first day of racing on Saturday, wind conditions switched back and forth from just a couple knots to around twenty knots which kept every skipper and crew fully hiked. At the end of the day, there were some protests to be settled and the team was in sixth place. We were all ready and confident to put up more great scores the next day.  Unfortunately, the wind was minimal on Sunday. The first race in A fleet was abandoned after the wind died down and the water glassed over. After a few hours of postponement, the regatta was called, solidifying a sixth place finish at the national regatta for Newport Harbor.

We are proud to have been able to represent our school and Newport Bay at this National Championship. Thank you once more for making it possible.
