Thank you for your generous donation to the Mater Dei High School sailing team to support our participation in the 2021 Baker Team Racing High School National Championship.

We arrived to the event prepared to train on Friday, but the conditions presented 18-20 knots. The host club decided that these conditions were too heavy and prevented the teams from training that day. This was a set back for MDHS as we were planning to train with our heavy air crew to prepare for the following day's forecast of 20 knots.

Saturday morning the winds proved the forecast correct, and we set out to the race course with 20+ knots of wind. Unfortunately, the strong winds demanded our heavy air crew, which our skippers were not accustomed to training with on a regular basis. This pairing, along with tough competition, proved difficult for the MDHS team.  We finished the day with a 4/6 record.

Sunday we competed in the lower bracket and finished the regatta in 7th place.

Walking away from this weekend, the MDHS sailing team grew tremendously. We are now better prepared to race in heavy air conditions and push ourselves against top competition. Though our results were not what we had hoped to achieve, we learned a lot from our competition and have grown from the experience. Thank you for making our participation in this event possible.
