This year’s Thayer Trophy, hosted by Corinthian YC in Marblehead MA, was an incredibly fun and competitive regatta and I am so thankful for the NHYC women’s team for making it an event to remember. The regatta was 3 vs 3 team racing format, sailed in Sonars (with spinnakers) with 4-5 people in each boat. Team NHYC started off the regatta slowly, but as the rain moved away and wind built we began a winning streak that left us 1st after finishing a round robin and moving about halfway through the next.

The second day we began by successfully qualifying for the gold fleet of four teams. With consistent wind and very strong racing, we faced teams consisting of my college coach Janel Zarkowsky, and other college coaches such as Amanda Callahan. Needless to say, the competition was incredibly strong. Determining the winner of the regatta came down to the last race, our race against Bristol YC, and the win was decided on the last beat of the race. Because wins in the gold fleet were worth 2 points, NHYC tied for second, but lost the tiebreaker and ended in third.

Overall the regatta was an incredibly fun event, and I would like to thank our entire team and especially my boat – Erin Batchelor, Lauren Hampton, and Beth Barnard Fay – for making the weekend as rewarding and successful as it was. Thank you to the host clubs and committee for running a smooth event and thank you to the NHSF for enabling us to compete and represent NHYC. I cannot wait for next year for the chance to bring the Thayer Trophy home
