I420 Pacific Coast Championship

This was my first regatta sailing I420s and was very memorable. It was my first time sailing in San Francisco and my first I420 regatta. The first day started off with light wind and postponement, which was the calm before the storm lasting for the rest of the weekend. It was hosted by Tiburon Yacht Club, which was a venue I had never sailed at before and I learned a lot about the San Francisco Bay venue and its current from the locals. Sadly because of the huge storm we didn’t sail the last day, but it was so fun derigging and loading the boats in the rain with everyone helping, and we got to eat the food and cake that was generously provided while awards were given out.

C420 Midwinter Championship

This was my first big regatta outside of the summer circuit and my first time sailing in Florida. It was quite a different experience sailing with such a big fleet and we got to sail in some stormy winds towards the end. I got some of the best heavy wind practice at this regatta and it was a big learning experience for me compared to all the big 420 regattas I had attended so far, which were all relatively light. It was fun outside of racing as well, being next to the beach and living with the whole team from the east and west coast. Overall, it was an amazing experience and a great regatta I’m thankful to have competed in.

So much thanks goes to the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation for funding me to be able to travel to regattas like these!
