This was now my 2nd experience skippering on the east coast and first time sailing in Cape Cod. What an awesome venue and journey! 90-degree wind shifts, choppy waters, storm delays, and more experience with a big wind venue.
Overall, I finished a mid pack at 20 out of 47 sailors, which I was pleased with for my first time here. To me, the experience sailing at Wyanno YC and skippering showed me what worked well and where I needed to focus and improve to move up in the fleet.
I gained a lot of experience navigating the start line, coordinating with my crew to watch for swells at the windward mark before making our tacks, and more than anything else, I am so appreciative for the opportunity to sail a new venue and represent NHYC / One United.
With the support from the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation, I am forever grateful as the grants help me to want to try and sail newer venues and learn from these awesome events, all of which help me grow as a sailor.
