Thank you to the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation for helping support my sailing at the 2025 C420 South Shore Championship. This year, the regatta was on August 2-3 in West Sayville, New York. Bellport Bay Yacht Club hosted the event, but we sailed out of the Long Island Maritime Museum. My skipper, Carly Kieding, and I flew in on July 31 for one day of practice before the regatta. The weather was warmer than we had been experiencing in Southern California. On the practice day, we did some speed testing and line ups before focusing on starting. The wind was very shifty and puffy. This direction held for the beginning of the first day of the regatta. The first two races were incredibly weird. One person even got an auto-tack on the upwind and flipped! Eventually, the wind shifted to its normal sea breeze direction. We still struggled to make sense of the race course. We sailed our worst regatta ever, finishing 17th out of 77 boats. However, we took advantage of the lower-stress smaller regatta to make new friends. We talked to a ton of new boats from all over the country, and it was our most fun regatta yet! I learned so much from this amazing experience, which the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation made possible. Thank you so much for your support!
