Thank you to the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation for helping support my sailing at the 2025 C420 North American Championship. This year, the regatta was on August 6-9 at Sayville Yacht Club in Blue Point, New York. My skipper, Carly Kieding, and I were already there because we had raced in the South Shore Championship, which was just two days prior. We took one day off in between the two regattas and had one practice day before North Americans. On the practice day, we did starts and practice races. The wind was pretty steady, and we were slowly starting to get the hang of the venue. On the first two days of the regatta, we sailed consistently very well, averaging a little under a third place each race. The wind was around 13-18 knots, which is our favorite condition. We were able to be trapping without being overpowered, and we are super fast. This put us in first going into the last day by a decent amount. The last two days were the championship days, where everyone was split into gold and silver. The wind was lighter, and the starts were more competitive. Everyone was going more the same speed, so we were no longer able to use our boat speed to our advantage. Due to this, we struggled and sailed pretty horrible. Overall, we finished sixth out of 116 boats. This result, combined with our second at Midwinters and eighth at Nationals, placed us third in the 2025 Triple Crown Series. This was Carly and I’s last time sailing together as she heads off to college in the fall. We were happy to end it on a good note, and we are proud of our performance as a team over the last year. I learned so much from this amazing experience, which the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation made possible. Thank you so much for your support!
