Thank you to the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation for helping support my sailing at the 2024 C420 Women’s North American Championship. This year, the regatta was on July 13-15 at Redwood City, California. It was hosted by Peninsula Youth Sailing Foundation, and we sailed out of Westpoint Harbor. This was my third national level C420 women’s regatta, but it was my first one as a crew. My skipper, Carly Kiedling, and I drove up on July 10, for two days of practice before the regatta. The first practice day was hot and had flat water and light wind. On the second practice day, the breeze filled in a little bit earlier, allowing us to have a peak wind of around sixteen knots. During the actual regatta, we saw around seven knots, nineteen knots, and everywhere in between. My skipper and I struggled greatly with our starts, causing our scores to be a little more inconsistent than we hoped. In the end, we finished in fourth place. While this was not our goal, the regatta was an amazing learning experience for me and my skipper. Our starts improved tremendously over the course of the regatta, and we were able to carry that into our following regatta. Thank you so much for your support!
