Thank you so much for your support of my travels to the CJ Buckley Regatta this year. Being able to attend this event was an extremely valuable experience. With such a high level of competition and so many races, it was the perfect event to gain a lot of experience in team racing. The CJ Buckley is an open team racing regatta, with 24 teams, sailed in a Swiss League format meaning teams of the same records race each other. This makes every race super important, and challenging. It was downright fun sailing. Our team, the Newport Beach Club 420 Team (or Bikini Bottom Bad Boys as we like to call ourselves) was comprised of west coast sailors from a few different clubs in California. The goal of our team was to show the country that the west coast can team race too, by being the first west coast team to be entered into the event. We raced hard and won some and loss some. It came down to our last three races on the last day to decide if we could make the final four sail off, and unfortunately we lost too many races and missed the final four by just one race. We were devastated as not only did we miss the final four but, we also lost several tie breakers to put us in the 7 v 8 sail off. We kept our heads high and went into the sail off ready to fight knowing very well, anyone could win. It was a best of three series, and we forced it to the last race, but lost it on the staring line. It was a tough way to end such a great regatta, but we were proud of our finish and look forward to competing next year and improving on this year’s finish. Thank you for your support, without it, I would have not been able to compete in this year’s event.
