Thank you for your support of the Global Team Race regatta hosted by NYYC in Newport, RI. NHSF support allowed me and 7 other competitors the opportunity to race on an international stage.

Over 3 days of racing, team NHYC sailed in 5-25 kts of wind against teams from all over the world spanning from Australia to Japan.  The team represented Newport Harbor at a high level on and off the water.  At the conclusion of racing, team NHYC earned a record of 23-2 resulting in a first place overall finish.

It was a fun and competitive experience representing NHSF in a prestigious international championship.  The team feels accomplished bringing this global championship back to Newport Harbor Bay!

Thank you Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation for supporting our team at the Global Team Race Regatta hosted by New York Yacht Club in Newport, Rhode Island.  Our team consisted of 8 sailors including: Justin Law, Haley Dahl, Jake La Dow, Chris Segerblom, Alex Curtiss, Andrew Person, Colin Voigt and me (Kayla La Dow).

The team traveled to Newport Rhode Island on a Wednesday night red eye in order to practice on Thursday and settle in for racing on Friday through Saturday.  Competitors included teams from Australia, United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, Japan, Ireland and four teams from across the United States.  Over three days of racing, Newport (the other Newport) brought us a range of sailing conditions including light/choppy to full breeze on.  The team excelled in all conditions and boat handling was on point.

After three days of racing, we concluded the regatta with a record of 23-2.  The team battled hard in the final four semis against the St. Francis Yacht Club to take on the New York Yacht Club in the finals.  Heading into the finals, the breeze had picked up, averaging 22 knots.  We focused on controlling what we could control - getting off the line, sailing fast and each boat controlling their pair.  We executed and completed the regatta with a 2-0 record in the finals.

I am very proud to represent Newport Harbor and the team is very stoked to bring home this global championship!  We look forward to defending the championship in the future.
