CANADIAN NATIONALS
This year I went to the Canadian Nationals in Mississauga. Unfortunately, on the first day we were stuck in the middle of a few squalls, and ended up having to postpone due to rain, thunder and lightning. Then, after a few hours of waiting the Canadian weather service announced our area was under a tornado warning, so that was the end of the first day. The second day we had a variety of conditions, ranging from very light conditions that we had to postpone in, to ten knots of really great sailing. We had four races, the first two being light and the second two being medium. Overall although it was a short regatta, it helped prepare us for North Americans and we had many learning experiences.
NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
This year North Americans were in Mississauga, Canada. It was a four day regatta, in which we only sailed two days. The first day had okay conditions, inconsistent wind direction and very puffy breeze. The second day we did not sail. We were towed out and then sat there for the better part of an hour. We then towed in and they called it for the day due to the conditions coming in too late. The third day we split into fleets and I did not make the gold cutoff and ended up in silver. We got a lot of great racing in, which unfortunately did result in racing until six pm. However, on the last day we towed out and had absolutely no wind. They had us out there for about an hour before they called it for the day, and sent us in. Overall the regatta was super fun and I enjoyed the time I had with my long-distance friends, even if we didn’t get that much racing in.
